This paper contributes to the literature on the regional systems of innovation focusing on the main obstacles to innovations for a group of potentially innovative Sicilian firms. We show how innovative firms have a high perception of the obstacles to innovation, particularly of those external to the firm (infrastructure, bureaucracy, public services). Our estimates show the importance of economic barriers (lack of resources) in constraining process innovations. The econometric evidence finally shows the high degree of interdependence among the different types of innovations and the great relevance of organizational innovation in determining the innovative performance of Sicilian firms.

Abstract
This paper contributes to the literature on the regional systems of innovation focusing on the main obstacles to innovations for a group of potentially innovative Sicilian firms. We show how innovative firms have a high perception of the obstacles to innovation, particularly of those external to the firm (infrastructure, bureaucracy, public services). Our estimates show the importance of economic barriers (lack of resources) in constraining process innovations. The econometric evidence finally shows the high degree of interdependence among the different types of innovations and the great relevance of organizational innovation in determining the innovative performance of Sicilian firms.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
