A study on the riparian vegetation of southeastern Sicily is presented. The study was carried out using phytosociological method. The literature data have been integrated with further unpublished reliefs, collected in field during the period 1996-2000, in order to provide a synthesis of the riparian vegetation in the investigated area. The following vegetational types are been examined: hygrophilous forests (Populetalia albae), deciduous hygrophilous shrubby communities (Salicetalia purpureae), evergreen hygrophilous shrubby communities (Nerio-Tamaricetea) and helophytic herbaceous communities (Phragmiti-Magnocaricetea).
