The foraminiferal fauna from some marginal, subtidal, poorly drained environments of the northern and central hydrographic basins of the Venice lagoon is described for the first time. Twenty-three species of benthic foraminifera are present in 38 bottom samples. the dominant taxon, Ammonia beccarii, comprises 62.5% of the assembalge; the subdominant taxa, Valvulineria perlucida, Haynesina paucilocula and Cribrononion granosum, comprise 9.3%, 11.1% and 11.7%, respectively. The abundance of all other taxa is around 1%. the correspondence analysis, conputed on the percentage of species present in each sample, groups the samples according to their geographical location. this is mainly controlled by the residence time together with local effects from freshwater input, presence of salt marshes, divide migration, and paleoenvironments. the stduied areas complete the knowledge on foraminiferal distribution in the lagoon of Venice making it possible to monitor the environment and compare it with past environmental conditions
