Novel [2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octakis(3,3-dimethyl-1-butoxycarbonyl) phthalocyaninato] copper(II) thin films were prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. Unlike for the symmetrical tetrasubstituted analogue, polarized light UV-visible measurements do not show inplane anisotropy of the orientation of molecules in the films. Transmission electron microscopy methods were applied in order to investigate the morphology and the structure of the deposited films. Dynamic response characteristics of the electrical conductance to 250 ppm NH3 in dry air are presented. The sensitivity as a function of temperature was analysed.
