In the last few years a number of important initiatives in the field of legislative document management have been developed. Different national initiatives have in- troduced standards for legal source description as "MetaLex" and SDU BWB in the Netherlands, "LexDania" in Denmark, the "NormeInRete" and "Normattiva" projects in Italy, "CHLexML" in Switzerland, "eLaw" project in Austria, until the open government UK initiative that gave rise to legisla- tion.gov.uk Web publishing service of original (as enacted) and revised versions of legislation. Such initiatives, mainly promoted by national institutions including also research institutes and universities, have promoted XML standards as well as schemes for legal document identification in order to manage and publish legislation.
