the objective of the present work was to study the interaction of a nanostructured clay, unmodified or modified with organic quaternary ammonium salts, with a diene rubber, particularly considering rubbers without any type of modification. Nanocomposites were prepared at the solid state and the study was performed through X-ray and Transmission Electron Microscopy analysis. A mechanism for obtaining intercalated and/or exfoliated structure is discussed.
