Update on molecular characterization of Freesia sneak virus (FreSV), a new species of Ophiovirus involved both in necrotic syndroms of freesia (Iridaceae) and Lachenalia (Hyacinthaceae), two winter bulbous species of South African origin. The complete genome sequencing is in progress following a peculiar procedure using degenerate primers and total RNA from infected plants. Detection of FreSV in freesia plants from USA market is presented.
