The near-threshold behavior of a single-mode CO2 laser has been investigated by applying a linear modulation to the excitation current. The associated delayed bifurcation has been characterized in terms of first-passage-time distributions for different sweep rates. A theoretical model provides good agreement with the experimental data. In particular, we are able to assign the initial photon number below threshold.

Abstract
The near-threshold behavior of a single-mode CO2 laser has been investigated by applying a linear modulation to the excitation current. The associated delayed bifurcation has been characterized in terms of first-passage-time distributions for different sweep rates. A theoretical model provides good agreement with the experimental data. In particular, we are able to assign the initial photon number below threshold.File in questo prodotto:
