Moreover they contain stabilizing, antioxidant compounds, like polyphenols, that provide long lasting mechanical properties and durability to the HDPE, overcoming the need of using specific synthetic stabilizers. The mechanical data for impact tests on the prepared plaques showed that hazelnut skin fiber provides better results. In particular, in compositions in which no binder was used, resiliency was improved with respect to the chestnut shells by about 30%. The presence of a binder further increases impact strength, especially using hazelnut fiber, in which case the resiliency is almost doubled. This allows to use latter composite in the realization of baskets and cups for injection molding and as packaging panels with high impact resistance.
