Developing a european technical reference digital library.

Ce rapport décrit le développement d'une bibliothèque numérique européenne pour la littérature grise. Le but était de mettre à disposition des scientifiques travaillant dans les domaines de la technologie de l'information et des mathématiques appliquées une bibliothèque numérique qui pourrait aussi être utilisée comme banc d'essai pour des activités de recherche. Ce service, mis en place au sein du NCSTRL (US Networked Computer Science Technical Reference Library), a été développé à partir du système DIENST, utilisé par NCSTRL, afin de l'adapter aux besoins de la communauté scientifique européenne. Ce rapport décrit les fonctionnalités complémentaires qui y ont été ajoutées, tout en traitant des difficultés rencontrées lors de leur intégration dans une architecture, un protocole et un système préexistants.

The development of a European digital library for grey literature is described. The aim has been to provide a digital library for scientists working in the areas of information science and applied mathematics and also to build a test-bed for research activities. The service has been implemented as part of NCSTRL (the US Networked Computer Science Technical Reference Library) and developed, extending the Dienst system used by NCSTRL, to meet the requirements of the European scientific community. The additional functionality is described and the difficulties encountered when trying to extend an existing architecture, protocol and system are discussed.
