Carbon and oxygen isotope analyses were made on four samples of Triassic dolomites from the Matese Massif (S Italy). These rocks show different morphological features, varying from an incoherent variety ('dolomite flour') to a compact, lithoidic variety. The results, together with the extreme uniformity of chemical composition, suggest that 1) all the rocks studied have the same origin (marine) and 2) the 'dolomite flour' conceivably derived from a more compact variety through a process which did not affect significantly the chemical and isotopic composition of the parent material.

Abstract
Carbon and oxygen isotope analyses were made on four samples of Triassic dolomites from the Matese Massif (S Italy). These rocks show different morphological features, varying from an incoherent variety ('dolomite flour') to a compact, lithoidic variety. The results, together with the extreme uniformity of chemical composition, suggest that 1) all the rocks studied have the same origin (marine) and 2) the 'dolomite flour' conceivably derived from a more compact variety through a process which did not affect significantly the chemical and isotopic composition of the parent material.File in questo prodotto:
