The paper highlines some problems and potential in interpreting climate time series because of high variability of physical processes and strong non linear interactions between sub-systems of earth climate. After some preliminary statistical considerations from signal theory, illustrating what and how we can infer from a time series spanning some centuries with hourly or daily resolution, the paper underlines the pour actual linkage between different sub-systems of the earth system. In particular, focusing on tempera- ture, the surface temperature trend can induce errors because of tridimensional structure of ocean circula- tion and exchange with atmosphere.

Abstract
The paper highlines some problems and potential in interpreting climate time series because of high variability of physical processes and strong non linear interactions between sub-systems of earth climate. After some preliminary statistical considerations from signal theory, illustrating what and how we can infer from a time series spanning some centuries with hourly or daily resolution, the paper underlines the pour actual linkage between different sub-systems of the earth system. In particular, focusing on tempera- ture, the surface temperature trend can induce errors because of tridimensional structure of ocean circula- tion and exchange with atmosphere.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
