Abstract

Purpose of this contribution is to provide a systematic analysis of the decay rate of anisotropic velocity fluctuations via the SO(3) decomposition. Both Large Eddy Simulation and experimental data are addressed for the homogeneous shear flow, which sets ideal conditions to deal with shear induced anisotropies. In this context the concept of the shear scale originally proposed by Corrsin has allowed to gain new understanding of shear turbulence.
