The Nepal Climate Observatory - Pyramid (NCO-P, 27.95N, 86.82E, 5079 m asl) is located in the Sagarmatha National Park in the eastern Nepal Himalaya, not far from the Mt. Everest. NCO-P is sited in the high Khumbu valley and the atmospheric composition is affected by the mountain thermal and the synoptic-scale circulations. NCO-P is located away from large anthropogenic pollution sources. The closest major urban area is Katmandu (200 km south-west from the measurement site). NCO-P was set up during January and February 2006, and the observation program was launched at the end of February 2006. The power required to carry out activities is supplied by photovoltaic panels with electric storage cells, in order to minimize the possible influence of local emissions and guarantee air mass sampling in clean conditions. The station was enlarged on spring 2012 to allow the possibility to host other instrumentations. A dedicated satellite conditions permits the near-real time data download and continuous QA/QC.
