I-Treasures - Capturing the intangible

I-treasures is an Integrated project (IP) co-funded in 2012 by the EU in the 7th Framework Programme, IST-ICT. It deals with the capturing, preservation and spreading of knowledge about Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). As a matter of fact, cultural expressions are not limited to architecture, monuments or collections of artifacts but they also include intangible live expressions such as music, dance, singing, theatre and craftsmanship. The main objective of i-Treasures is to develop an open and extendable platform to provide access to ICH resources, enable knowledge exchange between researchers and contribute to the transmission of rare know-how from Living Human Treasures to apprentices. To this end, the project aims to go beyond the mere digitization of cultural content. Its main contribution is the creation of new knowledge by proposing novel methodologies and new technological paradigms for the analysis and modelling of ICH. Combining conventional learning procedures and advanced services, such as Singing Voice Synthesis and sensorimotor learning through an interactive 3D environment, i-Treasures is expected to break new ground in education and knowledge transfer of ICH.

I-Treasures è un Integrated Project (IP) co-finanziato nel 2012 dall'Unione Europea nell'ambito del Settimo Programma Quadro. Esso intende condurre una ricerca multidisciplinare che riguarda lo sviluppo di nuove metodologie per catturare, preservare, diffondere la conoscenza e supportare diverse forme di apprendimento relativamente a quella parte di patrimonio culturale che è definito da UNESCO come "intangible" (ICH-Intangible Cultural Heritage). Il patrimonio culturale di un paese, infatti, non è identificabile soltanto nell'architettura, nei monumenti, nei dipinti e in altri artefatti umani tangibili ma risiede anche in alcune forme di arte intangibili ma vitali, vive e profondamente radicate nei singoli luoghi e nelle singole comunità. Queste espressioni artistiche comprendono abilità ed atteggiamenti umani che si riflettono nei gesti, nelle sfumature della voce, nelle espressioni del volto e che sono visibili nel canto nella danza ed in alcune attività manuali creative. Il progetto usa tecnologie informatiche di ultima generazione per "catturare" queste forme di arte e si fonda su tecnologie didattiche innovative per supportarne la diffusione e l'apprendimento.
