The proIamins, the main endosperm storage proteins of cereaIs, determine to a large extent the nutritional and technological properties of flours. In wheat the glutenin components are coded by the genes Glu-1 and Glu-2 located on the long and short arms of homoeologous chromosomesof group 1 respectively. The gliadin components are coded by the genes Gli-I and Gli-2 located on the short arms of homoeologosus chromosomes of groups I and 6 of the A, B and D genomes. The durum wheat-? Dasipyrum villosum addition lines were used in this study to determine the chromosomal location of the genes coding for the proteins analogous to wheat gliadins of Dasypyrum villosum. The resuIts reported here show that the Dasypyrum villosum genome carries a third gene encoding o-gliadin type prolamines in addition to those carried by the chromosomes 1V and 6V (Gli-V1 and Gli-V2, respectively). This third gene, designed .Gli-V3, is located on the long arm of chromosome 4V considered homoeologous to wheat group 4 as carrying some marker genes like Aadh-1.
