Zoobenthos collected during trawl surveys confirmed the high affinity of invertebrate communities of the northern sector of the Strait of Sicily with fauna inhabiting the Western. Mediterranean. Two new species, to the Authors' knowledge, for the Italian seas are reported: the bivalve Spondylus spinosus, a lessepsian migrant and the crustacean Acanthephyra purpurea, frequent in the Atlantic Ocean.
