The essay focuses on some Romance texts written in Greek alphabet in Salento and Southern Italy during the late Middle Ages. These texts raise puzzling questions about a possible contact between spoken Greek and Italo-Romance varieties. Despite a spreading orientation of the scientific bibliography, which tends to overestimate the features that should be evidence of effective plurilingualism and language contact, we aim to demonstrate that in some cases the answers may be found within the Romance linguistic system.

Abstract
The essay focuses on some Romance texts written in Greek alphabet in Salento and Southern Italy during the late Middle Ages. These texts raise puzzling questions about a possible contact between spoken Greek and Italo-Romance varieties. Despite a spreading orientation of the scientific bibliography, which tends to overestimate the features that should be evidence of effective plurilingualism and language contact, we aim to demonstrate that in some cases the answers may be found within the Romance linguistic system.File in questo prodotto:
