The melilite-typeoxidesarepotentialtargetsforexploringinterestingmagneticandelectronicproper- ties aswellasmultiferroicityandmagnetoelectriceffects.PolycrystallinesamplesofBa2Cu1xMnxGe2O7 havebeensynthesizedbysolidstatereactionmethod.Themorphologyandchemicalcompositionofthe samples havebeeninvestigatedbyscanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM)andenergydispersivespec- troscopy(EDS).ByusingpowderX-raydiffraction,thephasecompositionofthesynthesizedcompounds and theevolutionoftheircrystallographicaxesasafunctionofthedopinghavebeensystematically studied. Thesynthesisofthepolycrystallinecompoundsreportedinthisworkisaprerequisiteforthe growthofhighqualitysinglecrystalsofmixedmelilite-typeoxidesessentialfortheinvestigationsofthe complexmagneticphasediagramofthesenon-centrosymmetricsystems
