The Italian NETWORK for INTER-LIBRARY DOCUMENT EXCHANGE (NILDE) is presented as an intrnational case study of new types of consortia arosen at the end of the 1990s, as libraries embrace new resource sharing models and evolve from the interlibrary loan model. The contribute discusses the origins, the ideas that served as guiding principles of NILDE, how copyright is handled, the unique software technologies developed and the overall management process.
