In October 2011, the project of surveillance of algal blooms "SISTO" allowed discovering the presence of algal toxins produced by cyanobacteria of the genus Microcystis in the Lake Muzzano. These toxins (microcystins MCLR and demethylated MC-LR types) were identified by MALDI-TOF (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization analysis by Time-Of-Flight) mass spectrometry, HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) and ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay). Their toxicity for humans and animals, as well as their persistence in the environment should be taken into account when contaminated waters are used, especially during the periods of algal bloom.
Nell'ambito del progetto "SIstema di Sorveglianza TOssine Algali (SISTO)", nel mese di ottobre 2011 è stata rilevata la presenza di tossine algali prodotte da cianobatteri del genere Microcystis nel Laghetto di Muzzano. Le tossine (microcistine del tipo MC-LR e MC-LR demetilata) sono state identificate mediante spettrometria di massa MALDI-TOF (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization analysis by Time-Of-Flight), HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) ed ELISA (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay). La loro tossicità per l'uomo e gli animali superiori e la loro potenziale persistenza nell'ambiente devono essere tenute in conto nel caso di utilizzo delle acque contaminate, in particolare durante i periodi di fioritura algale.
