This essay deals with plague in the Modern Age with particular attention to the Kingdom of Naples in the 17th century. The plague was a very contagious disease, which caused very high mortality rates. Lacking proper medical remedies, a valid preventive "policy" was the only "medicine" against the disease. So, isolation and quarantine, which were well known, but often not timely adopted because of various reasons. The experience of the Kingdom of Naples, struck by a serious epidemic in 1656, proves the importance of prevention and the difficulty of completely isolating an area.
