In this study, the Geophysical Model Function (GMF) based approach is used to estimate the wind field at the Gulf of Salerno, and preliminary results obtained using the C-band data set are shown. Sentinel-I Ground range detected (GRD) data sets are exploited to derive Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) based wind field by C-band model (CMOD) GMFs driven by Scatterometer-based wind directions. The SAR- derived wind field is then compared with collocated scatterometer measurements and model wind field data from European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).
