IT systems have strongly influenced the travel experience of tourists. In detail, the trend in the tourist sector is the need to have advanced travel applications able to combine several features such as GPS-based positioning systems, good user interaction, and intelligent recommending systems in order to satisfy user requests. Following this trend, this paper presents the results of the HerMeS project. HerMeS project intends to enhance the cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) of the Lazio region by providing new types of advanced tools and services. The project's stakeholders mention cultural events, tourists, citizens and cultural operators, and Public Administration (PA). The HerMeS tools connect the heterogeneous needs and the interests of the actors involved. Through well-structured artificial intelligence algorithms, HerMeS can offer valuable information and personalized advice in the form of customized itineraries and points of interest constructed by each person who will interact with the system. Finally, HerMeS is predisposed to be a new project at the forefront of the use and reuse of information -data-not only for elaboration in the field of new cultural perspectives but also toward the definition of a Smart City.
