In this article the authors examine the importance and richness of the concept of the «Ego» as elaborated by psychoanalysis in relation to important discoveries that have occurred in recent years on cerebral circuitry, which make possible relationships within the self and between self and others (mirror neurons and Default Mode Network). In particular, Carhart-Harris and Friston's (2010) hypothesis is discussed, and a conceptualization is proposed of the Ego as distinct in its public and private forms, which meets both the conditions posed by neurophysiological discoveries and those of psychoanalytic research.

Abstract
In this article the authors examine the importance and richness of the concept of the «Ego» as elaborated by psychoanalysis in relation to important discoveries that have occurred in recent years on cerebral circuitry, which make possible relationships within the self and between self and others (mirror neurons and Default Mode Network). In particular, Carhart-Harris and Friston's (2010) hypothesis is discussed, and a conceptualization is proposed of the Ego as distinct in its public and private forms, which meets both the conditions posed by neurophysiological discoveries and those of psychoanalytic research.File in questo prodotto:
