Ricognizioni topografiche nella Necropoli Nord di Hierapolis di Frigia: nuovi dati per lo studio della sua organizzazione e l’aggiornamento della cartografia archeologica

This contribution concerns the results of the research activities conducted in recent years at Hierapolis in Phrygia by the Archaeological Mapping Laboratory of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of the National Research Council. These investigations are focused on the study of the topographical organization of the North Necropolis and its transformations between the Hellenistic period and the early- Byzantine age. As part of this work, two of the most important research activities included the creation of a new large-scale archaeological map, which updates and enriches the one published in the Nuovo Atlante di Hierapolis edited in 2015, and the georeferencing of the huge epigraphic corpus of the necropolis (about 750 texts). New data come from the sectors affected by the excavations carried out between 2013 and 2015 and also regarding the main and secondary roads which crossed the necropolis.
