The paper analyzes the fortune of Heracles in the 20th and 21st centuries of mass culture through a collection of examples featuring him as a protagonist: from art historical exhibitions dedicated to the hero to films, comics, animated films, and video games. In search of the motivations for the enduring fortune throughout the centuries and millennia of a hero who is often at odds with his reality, the personality traits that probably attracted and continue to attract the spectator are highlighted. The greatness, positivity, and, at the same time, weaknesses of Heracles allow for a kind of indestructible identification with a hero who is indeed great and invincible, but permeated with fragility and humanity.
