This paper highlights the results of a research on hydric processes in different forest systems to evaluate the effectiveness on sail conservation.Reafforestations of pine (P. laricio Poir.) and ook coppices (Q. pubescens Willd. and Q. frainetto Ten.) where chosen becau.se they are representative of conditions throughout the Mediterranean area.The intrerception, which is a function of the forest cover, is a significant factor in the hydrological balance and represents a variable fraction of the occurent rainfall while the stemf1ow represents a small fraction of the precipitation. In the pine ,stands rainfall did not cause any runoff. This was both because of the crown interception and the infiltration in the soil. It was, moreover possible to confirm that the reduction of density did not substantially modify the hydrological balance.

Cette recherche a pour but l 'analise du role de la forét dans la conservation du sol à travers l'etude des bilans hydriques de differents peuple. Ments forestiers, Les recherches ont ètè effectuées dans des reboisements de pin laricio (P. laricio Poir.) et dans des taillis de chéne (Q. pubescens Willd. el Q. frainetto Ten.), peuplements que l'on retrouve très fréquemment dans la zone mediterranéenne. L'interception est une composante significative du bilan hydrologique et représente une partie variable des pluies incidentes en foncton de la couverture forestère. L'écoulement le long du tronc représente une fracton reduite de la pluie. Dans les peuplements de pin laricio, les précipitations n'ont provoqué aucun ruisselement.. On a verifier que la réduction de la densité n'altère pas de façon considérable le bilan hydrique.
