Abstract

Viticulture aiming to the production of high quality wines represents a research and socioeconomiearea of great interest because it aims to an integrated combination of high qualityproduction, income and the sustainable land use. In fact, in a modern approach viticulture suitabilitymust be studied by means of a "zoning methodology" aiming to a land c1assification based onpedological, c1imatic and topographic features; such c1assification has to be validated consideringthe grapevine adaptability together with wine quality. Eventually, such zoning approach intend tocorrelate specific land units (zones) to the wine qualityThis study aims to approach this complex zoning procedure with an innovative methodology thatcan combine (i) spatial distribution of daily c1imatic data, (ii) soil mapping and (iii) functionalmodels. All these data are considered in arder to estimate a some crociaI feature far wine qualitysuch as plant water stress.
