European Directive 2002/91/CE on the energy performance of buildings provides (Article 3) that "[...] Member States shall apply the methodology for the calculation of the energy performance of buildings [...]", and provides for the definition of simplified methods for energy certification purposes in order to reduce the costs to be borne by final users. In Italy, the regulatory framework on the energy performance of buildings has been transposed through UNI TS 11300 Standard; thanks to the recent publication of National Guidelines for the Energy Certification, Ministerial Decree 06/26/2009, the procedures for the issuing of the energy certificate for buildings has been regulated at national level. ITC-CNR, the Construction Technologies Institute of the Italian National Research Council and ENEA, the Italian Agency for New Technologies and Energy, have made at Italian level a software, called DOCET; the idea behind the software is to create a calculation tool with a simplified interface for the energy certification of existing residential buildings. The need to assess the energy performance of buildings with end uses other than residential use, has led to the birth of a new tool, with detailed interface, called DOCETPRO, based on the monthly balance method. Customers can define the building model, creating several dispersing surfaces with different physical and constructive characteristics: these may be horizontal or vertical, opaque or transparent surfaces. Customers can also define the heating system, with one or more heating and hot water generation systems; it is also possible to define the thermal solar and the photovoltaic system. Both software has a calculation engine that allows you to check the energy savings and the economic evaluation of several energy retrofit actions. Our goal is what the two software become the Italian references for the energy rating of buildings. The article presents the main characteristics of the two software.
