The article presents a bottom-up approach for the assessment of the performance of urban areas from the energy and environmental point of view, based on the definition of virtual archetypes, defined analyzing the characteristics of the considered area. The model provides an estimation of primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions of buildings, and the overheating risk and the potential runoff of urban areas. The method is used for the evaluation of the impact of new expansion areas by defining intervention scenarios based on the analysis of recent building stock. The province of Monza and Brianza is used as case study.
