Essediquadro

Active service. Essediquadro is an experimental online service that provides comprehensive, up-to-date information on educational software, together with support for integrating software into teaching and learning. The service was established in 1999 by the Institute for Educational Technology (ITD) in conjunction with Italy's Ministry for Education and Research. The Essediquadro web site is principally designed to meet the needs of teachers undergoing Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Registered users can consult a database that provides full descriptions of over 4,000 software titles covering all school levels and disciplines, with particular attention to special education needs. The site also provides support for the effective adoption of software in teaching, with in-depth studies of software available in particular subject areas or for specific purposes, teaching modules based on the use of educational software, teachers' reports and an online help desk. The products listed in the database include commercial, free and open source titles, which in this last case can be downloaded directly from the site. Part of the Ministry of Education program on ICT and Disabilities addressed the issues of accessibility of educational software (Action Area 3). Under this program, a methodology was developed in 2006 for evaluating the accessibility of educational software. Consequently, evaluation data for over 350 products are available in the Essediquadro database. Servizio attivo. È un servizio sperimentale di documentazione e orientamento sul software didattico, è stato sviluppato dall'ITD in convenzione con il Ministero Pubblica Istruzione a partire dall'anno 1999. Si tratta di un servizio gratuito integralmente fruibile in rete, principalmente orientato ai bisogni dei docenti in servizio e in formazione. Essediquadro consente di accedere ad una completa documentazione sulle caratteristiche didattiche e tecniche di oltre 4000 prodotti software utilizzabili nella didattica, ma è anche uno strumento tramite il quale i docenti possono informarsi ed aggiornarsi su come il software può essere efficacemente utilizzato nella scuola. Il sistema offre infatti anche una serie di analisi relative al software disponibile in vari settori disciplinari, proposte di percorsi didattici che contemplano l'uso di software, una documentazione delle esperienze didattiche più significative e un servizio di consulenza a distanza. Il software documentato è commerciale, libero e Open Source ed in questo caso i prodotti stessi sono direttamente scaricabili dal sito.
