Food allergy is a potentially life-threatening condition; however, there are no approved therapies apart from avoidance and injectable epinephrine for treatment of acute reactions. The growing incidence of tree nut allergy results in increasing demand for efficient treatments. Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is an experimental treatment that enables patients to tolerate a defined amount of offending food, thereby preventing or at least lessening the intensity of reactions in the event of accidental ingestion. The basophil activation test (BAT) seems to be a useful tool for OIT monitoring since, from the literature, it is well known that basophil reactivity decreases during immunotherapy. In this preliminary study, we present an overview of the molecular changes that occur during walnut OIT, specifically with reference to the BAT.

Abstract
In this preliminary study, we present an overview of the molecular changes that occur during walnut OIT, specifically with reference to the BAT.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
