One of the problems of the school system is the distance from the job market, thus making the transition from school to work dramatically slow and problematic. School-to-work alternation (SWA) is an educational approach designed to allow students to develop and foster the competencies and skills required by the labour-market. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the existing SWA paths came to a halt because of the nature of the activities involved, which quickly became impractical. In this paper, we will discuss an SWA path that exploits a Serious Games to ensure that students can still obtain the necessary experience in an efficient, realistic, and safe way. We will also present the results of a case study that involved an Italian secondary school as well as the results of a semi-structured interview carried out with the participants of the case study
