One of the problems of the school system is the distance from the job market, thus making the transition from school to work dramatically slow and problematic. School-to-work alternation (SWA) is an educational approach designed to allow students to develop and foster the competencies and skills required by the labour-market. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the existing SWA paths came to a halt because of the nature of the activities involved, which quickly became impractical. In this paper, we will discuss an SWA path that exploits a Serious Games to ensure that students can still obtain the necessary experience in an efficient, realistic, and safe way. We will also present the results of a case study that involved an Italian secondary school as well as the results of a semi-structured interview carried out with the participants of the case study

Abstract
One of the problems of the school system is the distance from the job market, thus making the transition from school to work dramatically slow and problematic. School-to-work alternation (SWA) is an educational approach designed to allow students to develop and foster the competencies and skills required by the labour-market. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the existing SWA paths came to a halt because of the nature of the activities involved, which quickly became impractical. In this paper, we will discuss an SWA path that exploits a Serious Games to ensure that students can still obtain the necessary experience in an efficient, realistic, and safe way. We will also present the results of a case study that involved an Italian secondary school as well as the results of a semi-structured interview carried out with the participants of the case study| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
