Following the successful 45th edition in Vienna, the 46th Mycotoxin Workshop of the Society for Mycotoxin Research (GMF) took place in Italy, for the first time, from 25th to 28th May 2025 and more precisely in Valle D’Itria. The event took place at the Park Hotel San Michele (Martina Franca, Apulia, Italy), a single location that blends an antique farmhouse dating back to the 1600s and a magnificent villa from the early 1900s into a contemporary hotel. The picturesque city of Martina Franca is renowned for its rich history, elegant baroque architecture, narrow winding streets, and distinctive cultural heritage. The Workshop was organized on behalf of the GMF by the Italian local organizing committee led by Antonio Moretti, National Research Council of Italy, Institute of Sciences of Food Productions, Bari, together with Paola Battilani, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Piacenza and Chiara Dall’Asta, University of Parma, Department of Food and Drug, Parma. The Workshop gathered 264 participants from 122 institutions across 30 countries, including 18 European Member States and 8 extra European nations from Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The diverse representation, from universities, research centers, public organizations, private companies, producers’ associations, and specialized laboratories, reflected the multidisciplinary and global nature of mycotoxin research.
